How To Play

Step 1: Sign Up
Step 2: Profile Page
Step 3: Making Picks
Step 4: Other Features

Step 1 - Sign Up

PicksPop, the premier pop culture pick’em game on the Web, makes it simple to sign up and start playing.

We have tried to make signing up for PicksPop as easy as getting Paris Hilton to pose for in front of a photographer.  The only information we require is your email address. Once you provide us with it, you will be asked to choose a password and a unique nickname. Seriously, it’s that simple.

PicksPal will send you an email confirming your registration.

Step 2 - Profile Page

After you sign up and log in, you will be taken to your Profile Page, which we’ve designed to make it easy for you to manage your account, track your score, make picks, and compete with friends.

Let’s start with the left side of your Profile Page. Here is where you will be able to view your avatar and nickname, as well as edit your profile.

Avatar: We provide you with a default image when you sign up and log in, but don’t feel like you’re married to it. You can change it by clicking Change Image, and then uploading your own image (maximum image size 300k).

Nickname: Obviously, this is the name you will use when playing the game. Remember that once you select your nickname, you can not change it. And lets try to keep the names clean.

Edit Profile: You control the personal information that gets displayed publicly to other PicksPop Members.

Message Notification: This mini mailbox alerts you if other PicksPop Members have sent you a message. If you have a message, simply click the box to read your messages, invitations to leagues, and accept new friends. Note that you can always view and create messages by clicking the Messages link in the main navigation bar at the top of any page.

Scoreboard: Keep track of your performance in the PicksPop weekly game.

  • My Current Total: Up-to-the minute points for the week
  • So Far This Week: A handy day-to-day chart that shows your point total for the week
  • Pts avail (Points Available): These are points currently available for you to play. Remember you’re given 1,000 new points every day of the week.
  • Pts in play (Points in Play): Points you have played on events that are still pending. These points count toward your overall Current Total until the events are completed. After the events are concluded, a new point total will be computed.
  • W/L - Date (Win/Loss - Date): Points won or lost playing the game the most recent day of the week you played. Think of this as the daily ticker.
  • Lst Wk Total (Last Week’s Total): Your total points for the past week.
  • My Weekly Average: Your average weekly score for the current year.

Here are a few other areas of interest on your Profile Pages:

Invite to PicksPop: This is the best way to invite your friends to play PicksPop-- just enter one or many friends’ email addresses (separate email addresses with a semicolon) and we’ll do the rest. After your friends join PicksPop, invite them to a league or one-on-one challenge to get the competitive juices flowing.

Friends: This shows your friends who are members of PicksPop or PicksPal.

Step 3 - Making Picks

This is why we’re all here -- to make picks, show what you're made of, and win prizes.

Picks: Peruse the various tabs -- these are the different categories for the game, such as Reality TV, Movies, Music, etc. Click the category to see its games and related picks.

Making Picks: After you choose a category, it’s time to make picks. Remember, you can make as few or as many picks as you wish. Seriously, you can make one pick a day or 100 picks a day -- it’s up to you!

Making a pick is as easy as 1-2-3:

  1. Find the prop (question) on which you want to predict the outcome.
  2. Click the Make a Pick button and enter the number of points you want to place on the prop.
  3. Once you are finished entering your picks, hit Confirm button. Wait for the site to confirm your picks.

“But what’s a parlay?” you ask. We’ll get to that now.

Create Parlay: Creating a parlay gives you the chance to earn extra points by combining two or more picks into one ticket. It’s not as confusing as it might seem and it greatly increased the points you can win.

  1. Find the prop on which you want to predict the outcome.
  2. Click the Make a Pick button, but instead of entering points for the pick, click the Add to a Parlay link.  You will be returned to the main Picks page.
  3. Now you can add to your parlay. Choose another prop -- it can be in any category -- and click Make a Pick. You will be directed to the parlay page, where you will enter the number of points you want to play, and then confirm your parlay by clicking Confirm Pick.
  4. To continue adding to the parlay, click the Continue adding to this parlay link -- you can add as many picks to a parlay as you wish.

If you make a mistake and need to remove a pick, just click remove item. If you want to clear the entire parlay, click the Clear All Picks button.

When you want to view your parlays or any other picks you’ve made, just click the view pending picks link near the top of the Picks page.

Leagues and 1-on-1 Challenges

PicksPop offers a number or ways to play: leagues, 1-on-1 challenges, or against the entire PicksPop community.

Leagues: PicksPal enables you play in leagues with a group of friends or other Members. When you sign up, you’re randomly placed into a Rookie League with other new Members.

  • Want to create a league for you and your friends? Just go to the League tab, click the Create a League tab, and fill out the short form. As simple as Jessica Simpson.
  • Did a friend invite you to a league but you can’t remember the name? Click the League Search link and start your search.

1-on-1 Challenges:  These games let you test your skills against other Members in head-to-head action. Initiate a challenge by going to a Member’s Profile Page and clicking on the Challenge 1-1 button.

Step 4 - Other Features

Here are some other important aspects of PicksPop. You’ll find these in the navigation bar near the top of the page.

  • Blog – Visit the PopOff for all the latest happenings in the entertainment, Hollywood, and pop culture. When you’re jonesin’ to see the latest Britney or Lohan trainwreck, the PopOff provides you with a remedy.
  • Results – Provides a scoring summary of picks made today, yesterday, this week, last week, and this month. You can also check picks that are pending.
  • Messages – This is your one-stop center for PicksPop messages. Send and receive messages from other PicksPop Members or invite friends to join PicksPop.
  • Rankings – You might think you’re good, maybe even exceptional, but are you actually an impressive player? This is the place to find out. The page breaks down the rankings five ways: Today, Yesterday, This Week, Last Week, and This Year.

The Rankings also show where how you stack up -- look at the bottom of each box to see how you stack up.
  • Find - Looking for another PicksPop Member? Type in the Member's Nickname or email address. If you know only part of the Member’s Nickname, try entering the partial name -- we’ll do our best to find the member.
  • Log Out - Sign out, but keep coming back. This game moves pretty fast!
