What is PicksPop?

A huge interest exists for everything surrounding the pop culture and entertainment worlds. PicksPop, the premier pop culture pick’em game, offers a fun and fabulous game for you and your friends to test your knowledge of all things pop! Predict pop culture events, accumulate points, win prizes -- it’s that easy.

The best way to learn about PicksPop is to sign up, explore the site, join a league, and make some friends. [top]

How do I sign up for PicksPop?

From the home page of PicksPop simply enter your email address, create your password and nickname, and submit. That’s it! Now start using your knowledge of pop culture and make some picks. [top]

Do I have to create a profile?

We’re not into pressuring you to do something you don’t want to do. So, if you don't want to create a profile, then drop it like it’s hot. The only information we require from you is your email address. Other than that little piece of information, nothing is mandatory.

If you care to flesh out your profile a bit, you’ll increase the chances of finding people who have similar interests. And you can start looking for people with similar interests by searching by email address or nickname. [top]

What is that thing in my profile box?

This is called an avatar. You can change it by going here and choosing an image from our library of images, your computer, or the Web. If you use your own image, we will automatically resize it to 87 pixels by 107 pixels -- if your image is around that aspect ratio, it should look just fine and dandy. Much nicer than that silly grey square with the black eyes! [top]

Can I change my nickname?

We currently do not allow members to change their member names. If you really want to change your member name, you will need to sign up for a new account. But think about it -- changing your member name might just confuse your friends or family who use PicksPop, too. [top]

I have just logged in for the first time. What do I do now?

Once you log in, you will find yourself on your Personal Profile Page, which is designed to make it easy for you to make your picks, manage your account, and compete with friends. From this page, you can get started picking. [top]

How do I change my email address?

Email us from your email address of record at administrator@pickspop.com. Please include your nickname on the account. We will do the rest. [top]

Snap, I forgot my password. What to do? What to do?!?

Hey, this kind of thing happens to the best of us. Go here, enter your email address, and we’ll email you a new password. You must be logged out completely to obtain a new password. [top]

How do I change my password?

If you know your old password, you can change it here. And don’t worry, you can change your password as often as you like. [top]

Do I have to get an email from PickPop for every little thing?

No. You can tell us how much email you want via the PicksPop notification settings page. here). [top]

How do I change my image?

You can change it by going your Edit Profile link under your current avatar image. You can change from our library of images, your computer, or the Web. If you use your own image, we will automatically resize it to 87 pixels by 107. [top]

Someone on PicksPop is bugging me. What can I do about it?

You can block a member from contacting you. Blocking is a simple way to make sure everyone using PicksPop is comfortable. To block someone, click on the Member’s Image and go to the Member’s Public Profile page. Click the Block button located below the General Info box. This should restrict this member from bugging you. (If the person still manages to bother you, give us a holler.)

If someone blocks you, it most likely means your interaction with them is causing them a bit of consternation. [top]

How are the odds set on PicksPop?

We try to keep the majority of odds even money (meaning if you bet 10 points, you win 10 points). However, certain events occur that don’t lend themselves to even money props.

We make every effort to change the odds to reflect major incidents or scandal. [top]

How do I win points?

You win by picking the correct outcome of a competition. Points are added to (or deducted from) your score when an event has ended. [top]

What is a parlay and how do I make one?

Creating a parlay gives you the chance to earn extra points by combining two or more picks into one ticket. It’s not as confusing as it might seem and it greatly increased the points you can win.

How to make a parlay:

  • Find the prop on which you want to predict the outcome.
  • Click the Make a Pick button, but instead of entering points for the pick, click the Add to a Parlay link. You will be returned to the main Picks page.
  • Now you can add to your parlay. Choose another prop -- it can be in any category -- and click Make a Pick. You will be directed to the parlay page, where you will enter the number of points you want to play, and then confirm your parlay by clicking Confirm Pick.
  • To continue adding to the parlay, click the Continue adding to this parlay link -- you can add as many picks to a parlay as you wish.

If you make a mistake and need to remove a pick, just click remove item. If you want to clear the entire parlay, click the Clear All Picks button.

When you want to view your parlays or any other picks you’ve made, click the "view pending picks" link near the top of the Picks page. [top]

Do I have to pick every event or competition?

No. Pick as many or as few events as you wish. Your goal is to maximize the number of points you win each week. You can place it all on one event or spread it around to several different ones. It’s entirely up to you. [top]

How many picks can I make a day?

You can make as many picks as you want as long as you have enough points. Seriously, if there are 200 picks available on a day, you can make each and every one. Pick’em smart. Pick’em often. And if you run out of points for the day, relax -- you get more the next morning. [top]

How does the grading of PicksPop work?

Points are won based on choosing the correct outcome of an event listed on PicksPop. For outcomes that don’t have a definitive winner, the event will be graded a push (meaning the points placed on the event will be returned to the player).

Occasionally, Team PicksPop has to make a decision that is subjective. All grading is at the discretion of Team PicksPop. We try our best, but sometimes the result won't go your way. Just don’t go Bonaduce on us if the result doesn’t go your way.

If you have a question about the outcome of a contest, give us a holler.[top]

When does the grading happen?

We try to grade the contests as swiftly as possible so you can use points you have won. All grading will be completed by midnight West Coast time.

For television shows or other events that broadcast or are released at different times throughout the country, we will grade on West Coast time each day. We don’t want to ruin the American Idol finale for all our players east of the Mississippi. [top]

What is a 1-on-1? How do I take part in one?

1-on-1 challenges allow you to test your picking skills head-to-head against other PicksPop members. We chart your daily performance and track your overall head-to-head won/loss record.

PicksPal has automatically matched you against J. Popin, our resident Odds Director. You can also select one of your own friends to play against by challenging him/her to a 1-on-1 battle. There are two simple ways to challenge a member:

  1. Go to a Member’s Public Profile Page and click on the Challenge 1-1, or
  2. Click the 1-on-1 link on the main and then click the Invite Someone to a 1-on-1.
[top]

How can I cancel a 1-on-1?

To cancel a 1-on-1, click a Member’s Image and go to his/her Public Profile Page. There you can click on the “Remove 1-1” button. You must have more than one active 1-on-1 challenge in order to cancel an existing challenge. And, don’t you dare cancel a 1-on-1 Challenge just because you’re getting spanked. Stay in the challenge and turn things around. [top]

How do I start a league?

You can start a league by clicking on the Leagues link on the horizontal navigation bar at the top of the page. From there, click on the Create a League tab, upload an image for you league and invite people to join. Set it up as a private league for just your friends or a public league for anyone to join. Nothing more embarrassing than sitting in last place of your own league!
